Identity for Irish Design Week 2024
The identity for Irish Design Week 2024 was inspired by this year’s theme: Imagination for Opportunity. The event spotlighted speakers who tackle today’s challenges such as climate change with creativity and vision, often drawing on the past to shape future solutions.
We took a similar approach in designing the visual identity, looking to the archive of Kilkenny Design Workshops, located in the same building now occupied by Design & Crafts Council Ireland. KDW was a cornerstone of Irish design from the 1960s to the 1980s. In the early 1970s, they held a competition with Letraset to create a ‘Design an Irish typeface’.
Drawing influence from the letterforms that emerged from that competition, we developed a dynamic motion system that reinterprets these traditional Irish typographic elements in new, unexpected ways. The result is a contemporary identity that bridges past and future celebrating the legacy of Irish design while imagining new opportunities through innovation.
